Both of these points are founded on the idea of a philanthropist, giving solely for the fuzzies, which ignores the whole concept of effective altruism. (Technically, it’s true that my utility function depends on how my actions effect me, but I have higher order desires which modulate my desire for fuzzies. Now that I know that most charities are ineffective, I won’t feel good about my giving unless I’m giving effectively.)
