The odds aren’t looking good, but there’s huge uncertainty and opportunities for improving them.
And I think this applies to everyone, not just those with skills and expertise to work directly on elements of the AGI or societal alignment problems.
Everyone can spread awareness of the AGI problem. It is very likely time to engage as many humans as we can, even if that creates some amount of confusion and conflict. That is looking inevitable; probably better if it happens while there’s still a little time.
Aging, biological breakdown, humiliates and tortures us before it takes everything in death.
Does that make it worth rushing to AGI in hopes of beating death for this generation? No. But it looks like we’re going to try it anyway. So let’s try our damndest to succeed.
