The Codex (Week 1, Cautious Epistemology) - LW/ACX Meetup #200 (Wednesday, Aug 31st)

Note: we’ll be meeting IRL this week at Nathan’s (@nburn42#4388) place indoors. Nathan will be opening the pool again, so bring a swimsuit! He’s got roughly 10 towels, so maybe bring your own just in case.

The Codex (Week 1, Cautious Epistemology)

In anticipation of the ACX Everywhere Meetup in October, we’re switching over to discussing the work of Big Scott. This week we’ll be talking about what I’m calling “cautious epistemology”, which is the theme in Scott Alexander’s work where he defends having modest credences even in the face of convincing arguments that seem to imply extreme belief.
