I feel there are people who are intrigued by what you described as pop-science and will intake such interesting information formed in such a well put manner as almost factual without checking for authenticity and accuracy of claims made. As Oscar Wilde says: “Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”
