How would you prioritize preventing neurodegenerative diseases relative to adult HIA and reprogenetics? Preventing these diseases seems to circumvent a number of the drawbacks you cite for adult HIA as it is:
well-studied
backed by pharma / public opinion
has predictable benefits
Strictly speaking it doesn’t amplify intelligence beyond what humans can do at their best, but still seems extremely valuable as an ill person basically ends up with negative productivity and preserving intellect would allow people to leverage all of the crystallized intelligence they accumulated over their life.
Well, it seems great of course. But reprogenetics, and adult HIA if it worked, would do something that keeping existing people healthy cannot do: lead to many many more geniuses. Imagine for example that there were 10x the number of people who are in the reference class of “the smartest 10,000 people in the world”.
