When considering this, I thought of another related question. If MWI/Quantum Immortality insists that you not die, would it also insist that you come into existence earlier? If you can’t die ever (because that keeps you in more branches), then the earlier you’re born, the more branches in which you are alive, therefore MWI/Quantum Immortality indicates that if you exist the most likely explanation is… (I don’t know. I seem to be confused.)
MWI/Quantum Immortality feels like puddle thinking. But I’m not sure I fully understand puddle thinking either, so me saying MWI/Quantum Immortality feels like puddle thinking feels like me explaining a black box with a smaller black box inside.
Given those thoughts, I think my next step is to ask “In what ways is MWI/Quantum Immortality like puddle thinking and in what ways is it not like puddle thinking?
… imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, ‘This is an interesting world I find myself in, an interesting hole I find myself in, fits me rather neatly, doesn’t it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!’ This is such a powerful idea that as the sun rises in the sky and the air heats up and as, gradually, the puddle gets smaller and smaller, it’s still frantically hanging on to the notion that everything’s going to be all right, because this world was meant to have him in it, was built to have him in it; so the moment he disappears catches him rather by surprise. I think this may be something we need to be on the watch out for.
