Comparing to 1800 is quite obviously misleading… I didn’t say it decreased it in absolute terms. Obviously energy and transportation demands have radically expanded, especially if you are doing it on total, not per-capita basis. Individual divestment is not the long term final solution, but it is part of reducing the risk and moving the needle towards a solution.
If you look at more recent years, development of fossil fuels has been far more stagnant and largely driven by advancements in the developing world.
