I think if your time/money budget allows, then nothing says you can’t get them something else...
Perishable items feel like they fall on some spectrum between non-perishable items and experiences, and I’m already in favor of experiences as being good gifts. I think your subconscious is just flat wrong: if you go out and look for premium chocolates, flowers, art supplies, or anything, really, there are very expensive premium ones that very often are actually better.
