Your argument is worth discussing further. I think I understood your point. You are right that if the moral direction we take includes a wide circle of moral concern, this seems to solve the issue. But I wonder, will this happen if we don’t start out by concerning ourselves with the moral status of the ECH carrier? How does this happen in practise? If you have some relevant reading for my consideration on this point, I would love to read up on it.
