Ok to renew your faith in humanity a bit(or perhaps to decay it further), I think a bunch of dumb comments on tik tok/reels are deliberate ragebait.
As a recovering addict of these adverseral content machines, I’ve learned to recognize patterns for deliberate engagement.
If you see a video of a criminal doing horrible things and then getting arrested, you know before you click into the comments the top comment will be something something police brutality. If you see a video of police brutality, you know that one of the top comments will be something something “entirely justified”.
I don’t think it’s possible to have discourse on there, though it is pretty good entertainment. The algorithm is so responsive now, and you can learn to “pilot” the algorithm. Scroll fast for 4 videos and the algorithm understands you’re bored of this and shows you something else. Different times of day tends to offer you different topics taliored to the type of mood you tend to be in during that time.
One funny phrase I see for those who acknowledge this is commenting “brick by brick” on some video you enjoyed. As in “I built this personal algorithm brick by brick and now I get to enjoy this amazing video, the fruits of my labor”.
