I may have missed them, but what I’d most like to see are a set of posts on interacting harmoniously with non-rationalists or maybe getting along in an irrational world.
There are plenty of people in my life who are not going to (and never will be) interested in becoming more rational. Who, when I try to explain why it’s more effective for a certain favourite theory/technique to be cast out—will vehemently resist.
Yet as they tend to be family (or colleagues) I still need to get along with them in a way that is happy and productive for both of us. Ignoring them, getting angry or contemptuous simply does not help. Yet it’s often extremely difficult to make life work when what you believe, and what they believe are so diametrically opposed.
The example that springs to mind is work-related: operating harmoniously in a company that prefers over-confident time-estimates…
Are there successful techniques that people have for working alongside a company that does this? (I have plenty that don’t work) :)
The posts that most spring to mind would be “cultish counter-cultishness” and “lonely dissent”… but I’d love to see a whole sequence on the subject.
...I’m still only partway through the sequences… let me know if I’ve just missed that one.
