running the microgrant program has taught me how to be way more decisive and fast moving. i have just a few min per grant to read, consider, potential draft up an email to ask a clarifying question, and ship it. you can always spend forever pondering whether to give the marginal grants, but the time cost of doing so is so high that it’s not worth it, so you need to just make a decision at some point. it’s also strangely liberating to fire off many emails in a short span of time without reading them over carefully and agonizing whether to send.
I recently tried to apply the same logic to doing other tasks. A friend of mine does work in intense, 5-10 minute sprints. After doing this for a couple hours, I’m being more and more aware of how most of the work within as task are not actually important for achieving the goal of the task.
