This was a very awesome post. I’d extend it beyond the trauma lens and say that a lot of our societal ills come from people essentially trying to make up for unhappiness with substitutes (material goods, expensive experiences, holidays, political agitation). But that also suggests that, as you say, if we can provide them off-ramps and replacements for toxic substitutes our world can improve a lot.
