Personally I think there’s a good chance of a phase change in society (hopefully not an apocalypse, but a change that dramatically reorders daily life), but there are several reasonable and mutually exclusive possibilities. Scenario A is the AI-driven phase change of the OP. Scenario B starts when fuel and fertilizer from the Middle East get shut off (i.e. last month), China can’t feed itself or keep the lights on, the supply chains that make modern computers possible go away, and we have to learn to do without computers again. Scenario C is a good old fashioned world war, which future historians would say started in Ukraine in 2022 and features Donald Trump in the role of Gavrillo Principe (the assassin who gets the snowball rolling). Three realistic scenarios, all requiring different responses. No wonder you’re stressed.
