I still hesitate to apply the term “rationalist” to myself and others—after all the time I spent on LW, the term still feels monolithic to me for some reason. When I use it, I almost always find myself mentally expanding it into something like “one who seeks to attain an accurate map of reality” and/or “one who is able to efficiently steer the future into desired regions”.
