The choice between God and humanity is not just a choice of drugs. Above all, humanity actually exists.
That’s not the choice we’re facing. We don’t ‘choose’ humanity. Humanity is, whether we choose to accept it or not, just as God isn’t, whether we choose to accept it or not. We choose whether to adopt humanism, or not.
And, when you get down to it, humanism is just another drug that lets people feel good. The knack is to realize that ‘feeling good’ isn’t the goal, just a method natural selection used to get creatures to head towards the goal, and all of the hacks people have created to produce bliss are ultimately self-destructive.
Feeling good is not the point from the point of view of evolution, but it may well be for us. No one ever declared that we must do what evolution tries to make us do, just because it’s evolution that created us.
