FWIW I also have a similar stance towards your old post Morality is Scary. That is: the scarier morality seems, the more you should suspect that your conception of morality is actually flawed.
E.g. many people lie about having moral motivations in order to provide cover for selfish behavior. If you include those actions as part of morality then morality will seem much scarier!
(And many people also lie about others not having moral motivations. I’m reminded of a passage in HPMOR where Harry describes how, after phoenixes take political stances, the non-phoenix-endorsed side will generate many plausible rumors about why phoenixes don’t actually have good moral judgement.)
