The dominant enlightenment cultures, such as Britain in 1750 or 1900, weren’t merely better at reason. They were ABSOLUTELY CRUSHINGLY better at reason AND hard work than were other world cultures at the time. Modern developed cultures are clearly in the middle ground between the enlightenment pre-WWI and the the ancient third world.
