Based on observing my own thoughts, I strongly suspect there’s an Asch conformity-type effect for high status folks, where the opinions of high-status folks end up getting disproportionate weight in your beliefs just because they’re high status. (The fact that philosophers have identified “appeals to authority” as frequently fallacious is additional evidence.) Is anyone aware of any research on this?
