It has always been my impression that there is a “no politics” guideline around here, not a rule. Rightfully so, as it’s easy to generate irrational talk about politics which would quickly overwhelm just about anything else and ruin everyone’s day.
However, Roko brings up something that deserves serious discussion since there’s a lot of interest in existential risk here, but a good historical analog seems like it would difficult to find and might obfuscate more than enlighten (historical colonies are more controversial than space programs).
