At one point in the text, it was mentioned that any ethical counterargument is not enough to demonize genome editing. Personally, I don’t see any issues with positive changes, but discussing this solely from the perspective of genetic science, without considering social science and all the people who already exist, is irresponsible. If the project receives the multimillion-dollar investment it needs and develops in the most efficient way possible, would the idea be to mass-produce gifted individuals until people born the traditional way are replaced? Maybe because of the European or American reality that most of you are familiar with, you don’t understand the potential impact of this, but coming from the Global South, where we have almost no access to spaces of advanced intellectual production, coexisting with genetically enhanced people with much higher potential is almost like making my existence obsolete. We also know that it’s in the interest of the global elite to support separatist movements, and various prejudices are being maintained daily. Differentiating people from their very conception has a great potential for indifference. I also thought about the possibility of creating superhuman organic bodies to give to AIs… very cyberpunk, considering who currently rules the planet.
