I’m currently reading Rapture of the Nerds by Cory Doctorow and Charles Stross, and came across this passage:
″… I’m the me who spent the two years subjective actually trying transcendence, rather than denying it. You’re the superstition-based Huw who foreordained the outcome of the experiment on the way in. I’m the evidence-based Huw who actually ran the experiment and had the intellectual honesty to face the outcome.”
It’s funny in context, as both of them originate from a forced upload and the one speaking here just gave legal testimony in favor of forcibly uploading the entire Earth and converting the planet to computronium.
Also, the Committee (who were receiving the testimony) had to run a very large number of parallel Huw-instances and boil them down to representatively divergent samples, because they have no concept of CEV. Oh, the irony.
