I don’t think it’s a perfect 1:1 trial, but few things are. I do think that there’s a preponderance of evidence that having children (and not doing so) is socially contagious, and I think that getting along with a child of a relative or friend can help quell the anxiety surrounding having kids nowadays, after the big teen pregnancy scare of the 90′s and 00′s led our well-meaning parents to insist that sex ed hammer in just how much of a responsibility parenting is.
On that note, I remember reading that, after trials of the simulated infants in Home Economics class, lots of the girls were more inclined to want children, rather than less.
