For the people that reacted Why?/Citation?, the basic reason is that agent foundations has a very similar shaped bottleneck in the fact that we only have 100 at most agent foundation researchers, and even conditioning on agent foundations succeeding, it would require lots more labor than empirical approaches, and due to the human population mostly leveling off and people not being interested in AI alignment, labor is very, very constrained compared to compute.
