I’d never heard of Simpson’s paradox before, and I don’t think this sort of statistical-interpretation glitch would have occurred to me as a possibility to stay aware of in real-world cases (e.g., the Berkeley study), despite understanding the underlying math, although it’s obvious once pointed out.
