It was just the first thing that occurred to me when I read the post.
I guess a more realistic concept is that I may have implicitly promised someone I would save them, like you said for example in familial relationships.
But in that case we’re acknowledging the relationship between people matters as a factor which, IMO, brings into question the whole cold calculus behind the 10 to the 10th power shrimp thing in the first place.
Is there some greater context to this question? how often does someone promise to extend the life of someone else outside of familial relationships?
