Put me down for having a strong intuition that ems will be conscious. Maybe you know of arguments to the contrary, and I would be interested in reading them if you do, but how could anything the brain does produce consciousness if a functionally equivalent computer emulation of it couldn’t. What, do neurons have phlogiston in them or something?
Some, like Sir Roger Penrose, would say yes. I’ve already given any Friendly super-intelligence permission to ignore such talk and advance me towards godhood. But you’ll notice I didn’t extend this permission to human experimenters!
