Simon: Well, the understanding I got from all this was that human development would be sufficiently tweaked so that the “Babies” that humans would end up eating would not actually be, nor ever have yet been conscious. Non conscious entities don’t seem to really be too tied to any of my terminal values, near as I can tell.
Of course, if the alteration was going to lead to us eating conscious babies, that’s a whole other thing, and if that was the case, I’d say “blow up Huygens twice as hard, then blow it up again just to be sure.”
However, this seems unlikely, given that the whole point of that part of the deal was to give something to the babyeaters in return for tweaking them so that they eat their babies before they’re conscious or whatever. The whole thing would end up more or less completely pointless from (near as I can tell) even a SuperHappy point of view if they simply exchanged us for the babyeaters. That would just be silly… in a really horribly disturbing way.
