Discussion Topic: This week, we will discuss some of those classic questions regarding consciousness: Can machines be conscious? Are there different sorts of consciousness? Does consciousness matter? And what the hell are we talking about?
There is so much literature on this topic, and some of it is actually worth reading. See (and add to) the comments section for some recommendations.
There will be general discussion too, and there are lots of interesting recent posts. But don’t worry if you don’t have time to read any articles, or even if you’ve never read any Less Wrong! Bring a friend! The atmosphere is casual, and good, intelligent conversation with friendly people is guaranteed.
I will bring a whiteboard with Bayes’ Theorem written on it.
