I’m using “top-down” and “bottom-up” pretty loosely, but some intuitions to help triangulate:
Perception is bottom-up, prediction is top-down
“Dumb” subprocesses (e.g. ones a child could do) are bottom-up, “smart” subprocesses are top-down
Subprocesses where many different options can coexist are bottom-up, subprocesses where there’s one “right” answer are top-down
