Staring agape at the world we have arrived in; and despite knowing it was coming there or thereabouts now, I never quite believed it—and yet here we are.

Well, 2025 has been and gone, and Lake Michigan has filled up. But the exponential doesn’t stop of course, so what happens next? 18 months and we have double the Lake Michigan volume of water. Another 18 months on, it’s four times the volume and Michigan is drowned. Well before the end of the decade. On these trajectories machine intelligence outstrips humanity by an order of magnitude in six years. And keeps going.
