I’ve only been looking at online freelance sites and have had the most success at oDesk. In the past I’ve picked up a gig or two on Craigslist, but there was more legwork required to get gigs and I stopped.
The amount time spent reviewing and applying to jobs is such that I don’t intend to keep at it for a long time—but it is definitely a means to keep an eye on what (mostly) small businesses and hackerless startups out there want enough to pay someone for.

Yes… I am skeptical that that particular sub-goal would be accomplished by a FAI, but it sounds like an acceptable use for (even non-rigorous!) encodings of human values.
I think the idea that you are deciding for sufficiently similar minds as well as your own here may help in some way. If you and everyone who thinks like you is trading not-saved humans now for slight increased chance of saved everyone in the future, what would you decide?
(Note, if there are 400 people who think like you, and you’re using multiplicative increases you’ve just increased the chance of success by four orders of magnitude. If you’re using additive increases, you’ve gone over unity. Stick to odds for things like this maybe!)

Not (very) applicable if you have a strong gender identity: I’d always been fairly confused as to whether I was a woman or a man, neither one really fit quite right. Five years ago I met my first person who identified as genderqueer, but generalizing from that (one) example I thought it a mere label—I didn’t see how their behavior diverged substantially from their sex given gender. Last year or so, The Third Alternative, Keeping Your Identity Small, and applying being a linguistic descriptivist to my broader life came together. I’m a person, more or less human, and that’s it. One can choose null (but of course, the vast majority of acquaintances won’t notice...).
A friend of mine was raised with the knowledge of Santa Claus being a part of what goes along with Christmas for lots of people, but not actually real. Apparently they met one of the dressed up Santa’s around town as a three year old and...
