Unpleasant Experiences

Bring an unpleasant experience to share with the group, and meet inside The Shops at Waterloo Town Square. We will congregate in the seating area with the trees sticking out in the middle of the benches at 7pm for 15 minutes, and then head over to my nearby apartment. If you’ve been around a few times, feel free to meet up at my apartment front door for 7:30 instead. (There is free city parking at Bridgeport and Regina, 22 Bridgeport Rd E.)

Quick Summary

  • We’ll be using my apartment for this one so we have internet

  • Bring something for our bad vibes only show and tell

Event

For this meetup, everyone brings one “unpleasant experience” to share with the group. Bring a lego for people to step on, a particularly malformed or ignorant argument to listen to, a song that sounds like a banshee’s shriek, a bowl of cold oily spaghetti to touch, or facilitate an interaction that makes the other party feel bad.

I’ll be providing some century eggs, a Chinese delicacy, for you all to sample. I actually love them but a lot of westerners see them as a really gross, challenging food!

I will also be subjecting all of you, and also myself, to the worst song that I’ve ever heard. I will keep the song secret, but it’s a normal song length—under 4 minutes. I’ve never been strong enough to listen to the whole thing, but this Thursday I intend to change that.

Some limitations to consider:

  • NO SURPRISES. All experiences on offer are elective, opt out of as many as you wish, at any point that you wish (before/during)

  • No shaming or cajoling of people who are choosing to opt out of any experience

  • Nothing of indefinite duration (e.g. 10 hours of baby shark)

  • Nothing that impacts the environment (please do not stink bomb my apartment, I will be very sad)

  • Nothing that causes lasting damage
