Finally, suppose that the subject is something like homeschooling, or child education more generally. Not only is this question highly personal for anyone who has children, but it’s substantially more likely to be relevant to people in the rationalist community than for the general population, due to the prevalence in said community of a variety of (heritable!) personality traits. Getting questions in this domain wrong is unusually likely, for us, to result in inflicting substantial suffering on our children. Quite reasonably, therefore, this is solidly within our “heresy budget”.
It seems clear that trans issues fall into the third category…
… or they should, at least. But that’s not how the rest of the rationalist community sees it, as Zack has discovered. That is, at the least, somewhat odd.
I mean, this is probably correct. But my problem is that despite finding a lot of Zack’s claims on this topic in the past quite reasonable, I find the discussion over the last year or two exhausting to engage with. This post is 20k+ words alone! I’m not reading that. And there’s no article I know of which a reasonably good summary of what the heck is going on. So I’m not observing what Zack’s saying, let alone deciding and acting. Right now, I’m struggling to orient.
By the way, thank you for writing this comment. Same goes for @tailcalled and @Vaniver’s comments to this post. If only @Zack_M_Davis would write posts as concise!
EDIT: Changed Zack_D to Zack_M_Davis bc of Rafael Hearth’s correct reponse that Zack_D has not written any posts longer than 2k words.
To some degree, litigating deceptive behavior from Eliezer and Scott is just inherently going to be exhausting because it’s most in their interest to make the deception confusing.

To be fair, @Zack_D hasn’t written any posts longer than 2000 words!
