That’s just because most people don’t understand the transhuman paradigm. All one does is claim to have T.I.G.E.R. blood and AdONIS DNA and people look at you like you’re on something.

Didn’t the eggheads say back in 1994 that it wasn’t due to cultural bias?
“Intelligence tests are not culturally biased”
Wow its sounds dumber when I quote them.
Heck, what do I know? I can’t be bothered to read more than one page on this stuff. Got my info from this flyer.
Its pretty much a slam dunk in my eyes.
Most people with an IQ of 100 seem to be a net positive for everyone else on the planet. Most people with an IQ of 65, not so much.
With the exception of the proverbial North Korean Space Zombie Hitler Stalin Bad Guy straw man an individualist classiest sexist racist speciest ableist with an IQ of 135 has a higher probability of contributing something to mankind that a selfless person with an IQ of 100 who can’t detect any hostility or ill intention.
But people seem to drop utilitarianism when it can’t help you signal good things. Killing arbitrarily large numbers of certain kinds of people dosen’t seem to be a bad signal in practice. Implicitly violating taboos is. Funny that.
For my first attempt, I’ve focused on two online subcultures which I’m at least somewhat familiar with: furries and a certain subset of libertarians. For example, a large number of furry fans are fairly easy to please—give them a short comic to read involving a cute anthropomorphic animal, throw in a bit of sex appeal and maybe a message that’s compatible with tolerance of all people, and that comic will be happily read by a lot of them. Trying to avoid “politics is the mind-killer” derailment, the community of libertarians I’m aiming for tend to have their own quirks about what attracts their attention.
I guess spreading rationality to 4chan is out of the picture now?
Creating media that promotes LW tought is a good idea, more people should give it a try.
You’ve been reading Erfworld haven’t you?
If its carreid out it should be entertaining. Some comparisons among other ideological constructs would be interesitng as well. I wonder how say someone like Paul Gottfried or John Derbyshire would do immitating left or Neoconservative positions.
Using both educational attainment and level of religiosity as a proxy for open rationalism, are countries which score high on those ranks more accepting of open rationality? Top fits would be places like the Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden, and maybe Germany.
Depends. The countries in question come with their own ideological quirks. Especially Scandinavia is in a way a very conformist culture. Conformist to Liberal sensibilities but basically filled with people who have internalized a very low regard for any deviation from those sensibilities (I have heard Sweden mockingly referred to as the Saudi Arabia of Feminism).
The Czech Republic seems a good bet. Free of PC and free of conservative religious and other silliness. Perhaps the older generation carries some pro-Communist nostalgia, which makes the anti-free market bias a bit stronger but their historical legacy probably softens that too.
Also the beautiful young ladies there where a riot last time l visited thumbs up
Would have been funnier had you posted that as the sorting hat.
Or whatever the thing used in that silly book series that I clearly haven’t read. ;) Since all you nerds are gathered here I might as well ask you: Is Orlando Bloom reprising his role as Aslan or has G.R.R.M. decided against including him in the sequel to the Last Airbender?
Wow answering that challenge might seriously kill some minds.
I suggest you two PM it out.
This dosen’t seem overwhelmingly likley false. Its not a very nice things to say, but why should that matter?
Why so many down votes? In any case since I’m Charlie Sheen I don’t care if I’m down voted since I’m WINNING no matter what they say (wow memetic brainfreeze).
And “democracy + dictatorship and it’s variants” is obviously the set of all possible workable forms of government?
But suppose we are. Are our simulators are also simulated? How far or high does it go?
Turtles all the way down?
Why lose the raw computing power with some nested simulations?
Accuracy perhaps. Also what if it turns out that that feature hasn’t been disabled or made difficult for us in some devious way, I mean its not like we’ve tried and succeed, yet.
However the interpretation of the bible by various theologians was about as influenced by women as say physics, chemistry or evolutionary biology. In other words not very much either, but its not hard to come up with one or two influential women.
A related thought about the act of revealing your beliefs: what expected utility would you assign to shouting “The Emperor has no clothes!” when the Emperor, indeed, has no clothes?
Maybe I’m big on virtue ethics and consider always striving to speak truth virtuous. What if I think me or society “living a lie” is something bad? People have been willing to die painfully and ferment social unrest because of what they consider truth since … forever, so I’m not even sure its that exotic a mindset.
Not for rebellion’s sake so much as for the sake of survival and power. As one who enjoys the benefits of modernity, I find it perplexing that modernity has become something that is, from any rational Darwinian perspective, a form of cultural suicide. What I’m looking for is a civilization whose prophets have more resemblance to Nietzsche than to Jesus or his secular disciple, Marx. I just don’t see much future for non-Nietzschean modernity; it is a dying culture of empty cathedrals and hospital-tombs. If secular people continue to abort themselves into extinction, the future will belong to the fundamentalists. I see nothing particularly rational about this!
Strawman has a point. The Gods of human rights are cruel and inhuman (not the same as inhumane), they demand a great sacrifice. A sacrifice of genetic legacy, on a scale that wipes out its carriers, at least all their human carriers. Only way they can keep relevance is for us to spread their worship to every corner of the world.
Remember how infectious diseases are just “kind “enough to the host to ensure their own survival? With better hygiene less lethal strains of Cholera prevail. Mass media, the internet, high literacy and the support of powerful states … I think this qualifies as poor hygiene for the outdated biological tribal brain exposed to all the (occasionally toxic!) memes of 7 billion other vulnerable brains. The values can drift to be more genetically lethal to humans, since this dosen’t impede their spread. If this line of thinking is a valid analogy, considering current trends, what we see today may be only the beginning of their ever growing maladaptivity for the hosts.
The importance of Not Getting the Joke
I’ve got a bad feeling about this. But I’m going to do it anyway:
Edit: lulz it seems the original X isn’t about Y list Robin Hanson gave is now complete!

I guess we’re not as original as we thought.
“Rationalists should win.” is what sold me on this site. Its a good phrase.
