Eliezer: No, “good” is defined as that which leads to sentient beings living, to people being happy, to individuals having the freedom to control their own lives, to minds exploring new territory instead of falling into infinite loops, to the universe having a richness and complexity to it that goes beyond pebble heaps, etc.
you’re going to have to give me a definition that doesn’t involve “etc” for me to critique this further. As I understand it, you’ve taken some averaged or CEV’d collection of things that humans like doing, or things that humans find valuable.
But the actual initial segment of the list that you’ve proceeded with “etc” above is nothing like what most people think is good or valuable in life. An honest answer would probably read more like:
“good” is defined as that which leads to me having positive and exciting emotions, to people who I meet and am close to being happy, to me having children, to me having sex, to me having higher status and prestige than those around me, to everyone in the world worshiping the one true religion, to rich and undeserving westerners (excluding me) being punished for their sins against the third world/the natural environment, to the rival tribe/country/political party being destroyed and humiliated, to human dignity and natural things, etc
My list is the current human notion of goodness to 5 decimal places. Your list seems a lot more reasonable, but that’s probably because you made it up yourself and you are a lot more reasonable than most humans. Are you claiming that the result of CEV, applied to my list, will be your list?
