I would take your “this is clearly rationalization” claim more seriously if that’s how you’d responded at the time. Instead, you responded with incomprehension. Which seems like a good reason why wrong, simple arguments get used by people who should know that those arguments are wrong—they want people to understand the basic idea without having to read some paper about AIXI and then some paper about the complexity of human value, or have to know the abstract meaning of a function.
